Tackling Obesity Together

The largest study yet, on the influence of the Body Mass Index (BMI) on DNA, researchers found that a high BMI can significantly alter expressions of genes for lipid metabolism and substrate transport.

Several epigenetic markers were identified, which predicted the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The researchers hope that their findings will contribute to better ways of identifying those most at risk of developing diabetes, and help these individuals to make lifestyle changes that help them avoid the disease.
